Bataille Astrale (Astral Battle in English) is a contemporary abstract strategy boardgame invented by French board game designer Micheal Boutin in 1990.
There are 2 types of pieces: ships and the vulnerable piece. All pieces have 6 sides and ships have between 1-5 shields. A piece can only capture another piece if it has a path towards one of its unshielded faces. Each side has 1 vulnerable piece and 10 ships consisting of:
The goal of the game is to capture the opposing player's vulnerable piece.
The above game rules favor bold strategies that try to create and exploit any available path to the vulnerable piece. To allow for more defensive strategies, the number of spaces a piece may move per turn can be restricted.
