Oblong Chess is a Shatranj variant played on a 4x16 board with a variety of starting arrays. The long board makes Rukhs especially powerful.
The Horse/Knight, Rook, King, and Pawn move the same as their modern chess counterparts. The Alfil (elephant) and Ferz (analog to modern Queen) move as shown below:
Pawns are immediately promoted to Ferz when they reach the opposite rank.
